Wrestling, a brief history…

The sport of wrestling dates back more than three thousand years to the time of the Greeks and is one of the original Olympic sports. Today it consists of three main styles of competition taught globally. At the American high school and collegiate levels, Folkstyle is the predominate style of competition. It is a combat sport that tests the competitor’s strength, mental acuity, character, and determination. Wrestling is not just for men but also for women. It is not just a sport it is also a way of life.

Message from the Program Director/Head Coach

Each season is met with new expectations, a return to basics, and an exploration of self. I challenge my wrestlers to push themselves to their limits and then look beyond. What they think they can do on the mat and in the classroom is just a small portion of their true ability. I live by a simple motto, “Earn the View.” To be the best and stand at the top of the podium in wrestling or as an academic Honor Grad, you have to work hard to earn the view. Hard work and determination will only get you so far. The belief in self will take you the rest of the way. Work hard and never give up on the mat or in life.

—John Newton, Head Coach

"Success and greatness are not measured by wins and losses. They are measured by your strength of character in the face of adversity and your perseverance to get back up when you are knocked down."
